Thursday night is the unofficial start of the weekend and we want you to kick off your weekend with; great people, live music and fun. Owners John and Mandie have teamed up to give the greater Watertown area a reason  to head out on the town.

Michael Coppola

Michael Coppola began playing guitar at the age of eleven. His musical foundation, which began with instruction from guitarist Ritchie Lengel, was later developed through the combination of classical fingerstyle studies and lessons with jazz artist Sal Salvador. He pursued his education at the Boston Conservatory of Music; in Austria, at Die Hochschule Fuer Music, where he studied serial and atonal composition with Guenther Kahowitz, and later in Manhattan with jazz master Walter Bishop Jr. In 1980 Michael won 1st place in the Ovation Guitar Company’s national competition. He released his “Jet Blue” recording in 1987. The album, which received international attention, is a collection of jazz standards and originals all played on unaccompanied nylon string guitar.

John Mobilio

John Mobilio is a multi-talented musician who, as bassist, educator, musical director and performer brings his joy of jazz and music to audiences and students throughout Connecticut and into New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Living in Middlebury, Connecticut gives John easy access to performance venues in New York City, New Haven, Norwalk, Stamford, Hartford and the Springfield, Mass areas. John performs regularly with the Chris Coogan Quintet, guitarist Mike Coppolla, vocalist Richard “Cookie” Thomas, and saxophonist Jim Clark. He has recently engineered and performed as bassist on the Chris Coogan Quintet CD Stars and Wind as well as bassist on the Jim Clark CD “Old As New”. John has had the pleasure of performing in concert with jazz greats Lewis Nash, Jimmy Cobb, Mike Mainieri, Liam Teague, and Eliot Zigmund and Mike Clark. As a member of the Roylety Steel Pan Caribbean group, John interprets music of the islands on the fretless electric bass. In 2014 John became the bassist for Goldrush – a cutting-edge acoustic country band blending country and bluegrass music

Dylan Rowland

Pianist Dylan Rowland is currently a student at The Hartt School of music enrolled in Jazz Studies. He also spends time as the pianist at Huxley’s Bookmark Cafe.

Matt DeChamplain

Pianist Matt DeChamplain grew up in Wethersfield, Connecticut. During high school Matt attended the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts studying under Jimmy Greene and Dave Santoro. He obtained his bachelors degree from the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School in 2010 and graduated with his masters from the University of Toledo in Ohio in 2012. Matt has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz, Berks Jazz Festival, New York’s JVC Jazz Festival, the Berklee Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center and renowned jazz clubs such as the Regatta Bar, Smalls and Yoshi’s. In 2008, Matt was selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program where he engaged in a two week intensive composition and performance workshop under the instruction of jazz luminaries Dr. Billy Taylor, Nathan Davis and Curtis Fuller culminating in three performances filmed live from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. That same year he was part of a group lead by bassist Nat Reeves that toured New Ross, Ireland. In 2010, Matt participated as a semifinalist in the Martial Solal Jazz Piano Competition in Paris, France.

Charlie Apicella

Charlie Apicella was voted onto the 86th and 84th DownBeat Readers Poll for Guitar. He has performed concerts and recorded with jazz legends Dave Holland, Sonny Fortune, and John Blake, Jr. as well as contemporary masters Joe Magnarelli, Vic Juris, Dave Stryker, Don Braden, and Jon Herington of Steely Dan. Charlie studied composition and improvisation with musical titans Yusef Lateef and Pat Martino and was trained as a historian by Archie Shepp and Dr. Billy Taylor. As a young guitarist he met his idol BB King, who offered him advice and shared some stories.
